Im guessing the choice to shoot it dark was because of not being able to capture the video game right? My suggestion is that in the future just shoot it green screen and fix it in post. The only raeson i say this is because ur first ep was a 10/10 the sound quality and the lighting in this one makes me wanna say its a 6/10. Still cute and fun to watch. Keep up the good work.
Thanks. We shot it dark because we wanted it to appear as though the whole room were lit only by the television screen (we did use lights though). Only it backfired because the monitor told us one thing, and when we captured it it showed us something much much darker (due to compression onto the tape). We’ve spent this whole month trying to bump it up without ruining the image as we didn’t have time or resources to do a re-shoot.
as someone said the lighting was pretty spectacularly messed up. monitors tend to be inconstant so its best to do tests and rely on other means! recording to tape should not make it darker unless the screen just has messed up settings! but not just the dark issue but the contrast ratio between the tv even.
Thanks G. You’re probably right that the monitor probably had messed up settings. Long story short, our DP backed out last minute and I had to take over the DP work and had no clue how to calibrate the monitor properly (and I obviously messed up the lighting as well). Lesson learned!
As long as you found it entertaining, that’s what’s important to us. Hopefully others will forgive our crappy lighting job!
@Ryan– ahh, well, it’s an aesthetic preference that our trusty Editor/Producer Sam came up with (paying homage to the other great geeky show Spaced *see 23:15min mark–but watch the whole episode, it’s gold!*)
Wow…its nice! The voice can get a better vibe tho…
But the style, the jokes, the Music theme, and everything around the technique is very professional.
I like you show…and I cant wait to see the next episode. See ya.
It’s been two months now, what the hell is happening?! I thought you guys said you would release an episode every month, the way it’s going now, Lost will end their 6th season, and we’ll still be waiting for the end of your 1st season! How many episodes again? Are you done shooting them all?
It’s not fair for the entire crew who worked on your project, it’s not only yours, but theirs as well. You owe them that at least, keep that in mind.
No hard feelings I hope!
@ Kez: The 3rd ep, it’s THISCLOSE to being out! Our post-production (editing, music, sound mix) crew, as with the entire cast/crew, are doing this during their free time when they’re not working. So we’re trying our hardest, we swear!
To answer the other question: all our episodes are already filmed (last summer).
Thank you for continually checking GU out, means a lot, no hard feelings of course.. especially talking about us alongside LOST? hell ya!
I think by this point it’s evident with jobs and school, etc… that we can’t release episodes as fast as you want them out Kez (although we appreciate you coming back). I’m sorry for this, but it’s the truth.
We were planning every month, and we promised this to everyone, but unfortunately real life takes over. We try for a month (and have tried for 3 episodes now), but no one is paying us to do this, and we aren’t paying anyone to do this. You will have to be patient.
However we haven’t given up, the third episode is a hair away from being released. We know our crew very well, and one of our main crew members is our main editor.
We know we aren’t building a strong fanbase like this, but hopefully once more episodes are out, or once they are all out, the content will speak for itself.
Haha love the Matrix reference and the use of “frak”! Good job kids, another piece of quality geekyness!

So good and exciting to see another episode! I can’t wait to see more!

content is entertaining, though!
Nice guys! Cant wait for ep3!

Thanks Janeway!
Great new episode, guys! The lines were well delivered and they felt natural!
It was a really pleasant episode, guys. I can’t wait for another one!
hey great jobs on episode number 2
can’t wait for the next one
but exactly how long do i have to wait?
NEIL YOU ROCK
@bristolboy — shouldn’t be as long a wait as Ep2… beginning of Feb. If not, we owe you a Mars bar.
And agreed, Neil is flippin’ awesome.
Thanks Filipe!
Nice dudes, hope there are many more Trek jokes! Lookin forward to 3, ENGAGE!
Actually there are some star trek jokes in the next one.
Guys interesting work, but those sideways credits are not a good idea. There’s a reason they go up and down normally.

Those Credits are going fast and we can’t really read anything guys. Maybe if you pause them for a bit and move on the next ones it would work better.
